Sometimes it baffles me what secrets FS commenters do and don't flip their lids about. How is this any different from, say, complaining that most folks who write romance fic for a certain fandom write one pairing you don't like (a complaint I've seen posted here a few times without any vitriol in the responses)?

I think it's different because when arguing one pairing over the other, although stupid (in my opinion), everyone's still in it because they love it, it's just a difference in preference. This secret has a different vibe to me because it's deriding the main purpose of fandom, which is FUN. It just feels mean spirited. Also, it's an extremely easy thing to avoid, so complaining feels encroaching and petty. Don't want OCs? Only click on stories that specify NPC characters. It's not rocket science.

Seconding the mean spiritedness of the OP, and the comment that compares PC centered fic to diarrhea. Someone here has serious issues.

OP is trashing entire fandoms in a vitriolic way becaue *mary sue* *gary sue*

Diarrhea commentor here

So, according to you, expressing a strong opinion (an opinion I stated I usually keep to myself), under the cover of anonymity, in an obscure corner of the internet, means I have issues?

Post your diploma, Sigmund.

Awwwwwwww your fee fees hurt?

Anyone who gets that upset about fucking fanfic that people write for fun has hang ups. If it's not hurting anyone, just pass it by.

Of course that takes maturity.

Cuz the very nature of this type of games allows people to have more freedom regarding who/how they write as the protagonist. In other fandoms you have set characters. It's just so dumb to go into these fandoms knowing that the basic mechanic of the game's story is that YOU experience it through your OWN character, and still manage to whine about how people write exactly that in their fic.
