And one of the maids who ends up being the oldest sister's maid, falls in love with the count's butler but he's married to a shrew and the shrew kills herself to set up the butler for murder (I am so not kidding) and he gets sent up, but his death sentence is commuted and he eventually gets out of jail free and as of rn they are happy as can be which on this show means they are both doomed for a Fate Worse Than Death (again).

I also forgot the love interest of the main couple (the oldest daughter's husband) originally intended to marry someone else, but they killed the fiancee dead with the Spanish Flu but she came back via Ouija Board (can't emphasize enough that members OF MY CHURCH watch this) so she didn't get better because she wasn't pretty enough or lordly enough to be "the queen of the county" or something. Plus the anachronisms, did I mention the anachronisms, watch even a middling documentary on the same era and it's enough to make you tear your hair out.

I'm sorry F!S I have so much unresolved frustration with this show, and no one to vent to. Just wait a while, OP: I guarantee you the character in your secret is in for a terrible time. This show beats up its characters (quite literally -- the creeptastic butler I mentioned above ended up get gay-bashed on the last episode aired on PBS) something awful.

But, on the plus side, there's Maggie Smith snarking her way ridiculously through the 1900s, and the house is amaaaaaazing to look at, if only to take your mind off the ridiculous writing.

dude...just stop watching the show if it causes you that much frustration. it's basically a soap opera (albeit much more well done and acted than anything like it), and you really either like that or you don't. and if your frustration is more about the members of your church misunderstanding something? well, you're a part of the church, so you're obviously used to getting over that.

Thomas did not get gay-bashed in the finale. Some guys were going to beat up the new hire and Thomas jumped into save him. And then he got beat up. It had nothing to do with his sexuality. (I will not contest 'creeptastic' though, omg Thomas what the hell is wrong with you.)
