Don't have anything for Fighting towards Flying. Poison being weak against Ground makes sense to me because ground is great at filtering which includes pollutants. As for the Psychic type, a mind-reader would have trouble being poisoned, yes? Dark's more fighting dirty, so a honorable fighter would be able to counter that or something. Same goes for Normal; an average joe can't really fight as well as a pro. Aaaaand Psychic's (or mind) weakness correspond to fears (Bugs, Ghost, and Dark (or Evil, if you prefer.)

But, point taken.

I'm going to analyze this a little bit because for some reason I really care about this lol. Not trying to push my point or anything. If anything I like the possibility of coming to understand some of these relationships a bit better and the reasons behind them.

because ground is great at filtering which includes pollutants

This would explain Ground resisting Poison, but I don't think it actually does that. Doesn't do much to explain Poison being weak to Ground.

a mind-reader would have trouble being poisoned, yes

Same as above, and I can't remember if Psychic resists Poison. But even then I'm not sure I'd agree with that reasoning - you'd think that mind reading abilities would give Psychic-types the ability to avoid virtually any attack, by that logic. But their physical bodies would be just as susceptible to poison as any other, wouldn't they?

Dark's more fighting dirty, so a honorable fighter would be able to counter that or something

I like this one, but it's way more abstract, kind of like my reasoning for Light and Dragon.

an average joe can't really fight as well as a pro.

That doesn't really explain susceptibility to attacks tough? I think this one's pretty tenuous.

Psychic's (or mind) weakness correspond to fears (Bugs, Ghost, and Dark (or Evil, if you prefer.)

I actually really like this one! That makes a lot of sense ^^ The only thing about that is kind of off-topic, but I really strongly disagree with calling Dark "evil" in the Pokémon world. I think of it as more of a correspondence to "shadow" which (at least in my headcanon) is not at all an evil force - just one that tends to be mysterious and connected to things like mischief. The goodness or evilness (if that's even possible) of a Pokémon are not connected to its type imo.

No, that's totally fine. I should of said that these were my precious little headcanons and pretty much wanted an excuse to share them. It's really fun for me, because gosh darn it I want somewhat logical explanations for the type chart.

And I can see your points with those! Don't really have much I can counter with your points at the moment, though. Hopefully we'll be able figure something, right?

As for Evil versus Dark; I prefer Dark because, like you, I don't see Dark types are inherently bad, just mischievous. However, I think with being originally named the Evil type, Game Freak was going for more of a fighting dirty connection rather than a shadow connection. So I like to keep that in mind when coming up with types.

Also, the only other place I've seen the logic behind type match ups being discussed is on Tv Tropes' Wild Mass Guessing theories. So here's the link if you're interested: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WMG/PokemonTypeMatchups

I read elsewhere on the thread that "Dark" was called "Evil" in Japanese and it really surprised me. Huh.

Thanks for the link and I might look into it later (it's super interesting!) but I'm about to go to bed in just a minute so...I really don't dare venture into the wild and labrynthine realm of TV Trops right now |D

The Japanese version of Dark is Evil, yeah. Which I honestly don't think fits, considering Pokemon like Absol - which are explicitly NOT evil, and are more misunderstood Cassandra-types.
