i disliked both of them for it. it was daisy's fault in the first place; she should not have kissed william. she knew how much he liked her, and she was just being selfish by kissing him. 'oh, if i kiss him, he'll cheer up and i'll feel better!', without thinking about the consequences of it. and she should have told him right away that it didn't mean anything. but mrs. patmore had no right to bully her into marrying him. then again, i could understand why she was doing so. i could also understand daisy's feelings of thinking it was wrong. i don't know, the whole thing was stupid!

but i get the feeling that's what the writers wanted us to think, so it's all good.

I kinda get squicky at the idea of calling it Daisy's "fault." There's that whole "she was leading him on" mentality that's really uncomfortable. Feelings are confusing, and Daisy wouldn't be the first person to give the wrong guy a hug/kiss/date/false bit of hope at the wrong time out of pity and the vague hope that maybe it'll help things a bit. Patmore had her take it waaaaaay too far, but it seemed like every time she tried to get out, she couldn't without making a huge scene. She got herself well and truly stuck. If 100+years later, girls and women are still socialized to want to "be nice" to men, especially men who show interest in them even if they aren't interested back (seriously, that "you should just give him a chance; he's a super-nice-guy" lecture is unpleasant as hell to sit through, and it takes pretty much deciding to be stone to not cave in), how much worse would it have been back then.

You can kiss a guy, especially on an impulse, and it still doesn't have to mean anything. It's kind of creepy to say it's "her fault." It's no one's "fault" where feelings go.
