Okay, if the dog turned out to be all right, it was an accident, and he felt bad about it, then I suppose I can let it go.

i personally just chalked it up to Scottish/British sensibilities, like he did say he felt awful and guilty about what happened, but just said it in a way that didn't feel right.

P.S. in the AOS comic version of the trouble with tribbles, scotty did mention he had been trying everything to get the dog back because he was trying to beam the dog into Archer's home but something went wrong. so it was just an accident, he was just trying to not dwell on it too much when asked about it.
