I think they just meant that the lectures are an insult to their intelligence. People have the tendency to be preachy about other people's health. OP knows about anorexia. Their online friends are not qualified to give a diagnosis. So yeah, it is insulting.

that is exactly what i meant. obviously i don't think people who have eating disorders are unintelligent. for fuck's sake, i can't even fathom how anybody *could* think that.
