I disagree with the idea that info you have to dig to find is "there for people to read it". When you construct a profile, you are making it clear that you WANT people to know the information you put there (that includes when you deliberately post links to other sites where you have a profile or sites that you own/run). When you have to dig around, Google people, and follow crumb trails to find information about someone, it's safe to assume they did not want you to find it. There's courtesy and respect for privacy there.
