I have to admit, I do this too, at least where fandom is involved. I'm going to assume it is because most of the fandom circles I've been in have been overwhelmingly female and so I just expect them all to probably be (and I've never seen any evidence to the contrary).

It's one thing to think that a person you see it likely female because most people there are but another to assume they actually are I guess and treat them as such. I don't really know which you're doing.

If you actually treat people differently because of it, sure, that's a problem. I just pretty much think in the back of my mind that they are probably female but that's not exactly something I tend to obsess/care about much. The only time it really comes into play is if I need to refer to them with a pronoun.

I also assume people are probably American, though with that one I expect to come across exceptions more.

Wasn't there a poll a couple of years ago that turned out that women make up like 80% of f!s?

idk, I might not have been around for that.

tenebrais remembers! (See reply below.) Survey results were like 5% male. They were outnumbered by people of nonbinary gender.

Yeah - men were less than 5% of the community and, if I recall correctly, actually outnumbered by the non-binary members.
