I find that joke annoying and was happy to see it not in my inbox yesterday.

You know, it's only recently that I've heard the joke and at the same time heard annoyance about it. Where's it from?

I see a lot of people use that joke because...he's animated in his movements? Flamboyant? Jazzy? A man can't be these things? & people kept beating it into the ground.
There was a really nice post about it on tumblr.

I see their point but I don't like how they assume "girly" is an insult.

If it's that feministdisney tumblr, they didn't say that at all:

"But by saying he must be a “princess,” in other words indicating we think he is “like a girl” (since princesses are otherwise always girls, in media) we end up re-asserting the idea that a certain set of behaviors are only things “girls do” even though it’s a boy doing it!"

They're saying that someone who is not behaving in a way totally socially expected for a man is less of a man. It's not just calling him 'girly', it's also referring to him as a 'princess'. Which is a title only women have.

less of a man

And that's what I have a problem with. That "female" = "less".

He can be a princess if he wants to. And if that's someone's headcanon for him, how is that different from other headcanon?

Less isn't a negative word. Calling him the best Disney Princess is definitely implying that because he does things people usually consider feminine that just makes him a woman.

He doesn't identify as a woman or a princess. No one is 'headcanoning' that he's trans* or genderqueer or anything. They just think it's funny that he's so fabulous he might as well be a woman.

I agree with the tumblr--I would be offended if someone said that playing sports made me manly. It makes me athletic, nevermind if you think of athleticism as being a male-only trait. The only male-only trait there is is being a male. So if you're calling someone 'manly', you're saying they're actually more of a dude. And if I'm not identifying as more of a dude, you shouldn't be telling me that I am anyway because I have certain past times or traits that you think aren't for ladies.
