With guys it looks less award if they pull down the face.
I can tell you at least with dudes we do usually first cut with then against the grain going back, I'd imagine girls are similiar since that's how hair works, but I'd bet how it all looks is why they do it the way they do.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 03:42 am (UTC)(link)Male facial hair is usually thicker, and the skin on your face is somewhat more sensitive than the skin on your legs. I imagine when it gets to a certain length, it's really uncomfortable to shave against from the start. Removing some of the length by going with the first time reduces the pull from going against. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the impression I get.
