and in my experience it's always been as a chance to leap on my for all my life 'failings' and to remind me that if I'd just pray to god my life would be perfect and I wouldn't be ill/having bad times/gay.
Which is the exact opposite of concern and compassion unless we're talking about the oozing "fake concern" people express to make themselves feel better.

So I appreciate it exactly in the terms it's used as. Offensive and the person who says that is not worth my time.

Surprise! people have different experiences.

No.

I mean, I'm willing to accept that there are times when people are saying they'll pray to you just to be dicks, and that context matters. I don't deny that happens although I've never experienced it. But then your objection isn't to the statement "I'll pray for you", it's to people who are dicks saying it to be dickish. And saying that the term itself is categorically objectionable kinda makes you sound a little ridiculous, honestly.
