Could you name a fandom or two where genderswap has actually taken over? I'm curious to know where it's most common.

Taking over might be a bit much, but there are certain fandoms where it was quite common last time I looked. Some of them were: Assassin's Creed (there was a time with lots of fem!Altair and fem!Malik), BBC Sherlock had a lot of it at one point but I quit that fandom a long while ago, as I did with Hetalia, but it was massive there as well.
I don't think Avengers/Thor really count since the genderswap is partly canon in Loki's case, but Lady Loki gets on my nerves anyway.

I try to avoid genderswap in fic, so I don't really remember all fandoms where it happens, but there's also the genderbent fanart - especially from pixiv - which sometimes floods a character/fandom tumblr tag and I can't really avoid it because people don't tag it properly.

In fanart, I hate it most when people create female versions of male characters and the female designs only wear a third of the fabric the male version does.

BBC Sherlock? It sure pops up in some weird places.

I've only really encountered it in One Piece, but that is only to be expected since there's a character in the canon who can actually give a person an instant sex change, and the author/artist has even drawn genderswapped versions of the main characters himself.

I get a bit bothered by the minimal amount of clothing as well. I don't mind the guys wearing more feminine clothes, or even wearing shorts or a short skirt instead of trousers, but some of those fanarts are just ridiculous.

As I said, it's been a while since I was active in a few of those fandoms, so I don't know what it's like now. But considering the size of the Sherlock fandom, it doesn't surprise me that they have basically every niche, genre and trope covered. I now remember the Merlin fandom had a bit of genderswap as well back in the day.

It's hard to ignore if the artist himself drew genderswaps and the canon includes a character who swaps genders, I guess. Considering I dislike genderswapping a lot, I avoid it, so it really only annoys me if a) a very rare pairing I love has a new fic - but it's genderbent or b) it appears without a warning.

But yeah, some fanart... especially if it's a character where the male version is not very outgoing/flirty and fairly covered up in layers upon layers of fabric and the genderswap comes not only with an incredibly skimpy outfit, but also with a 360° personality change... just no.
