I want to send them anonymous notes saying, "Stop clogging up the pages with you fifteen 100 word drabbles. No ones wants to read that shit one at a time."

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
+1.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather have them all separate than wade through a fifteen chapter "collection" of unrelated drabbles to find the one that might interest me. It's worst for kink meme fills with different pairings and kinks.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
When people do that, don't they make list of what drabble is in which chapter?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Some maybe, but most apparently don't. It's very annoying, especially on AO3, because those "collections" appear on every pairing tag - when only one small fic actually qualifies.

A question related to this secret: when you do a search on AO3, is there any way to rule out certain authors from the search, so that their work doesn't show up in the results?

...I imagine that somebody has really gotten on your nerves

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
You would be guessing correctly. By the sheer volume for starters.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
On search within results, if you type in -"whatever you want excluded" exactly formatted that way with the hyphen and quotes, it lets you exclude certain tags (I like to exclude -"Stiles" and -"Stiles/Derek" when searching Teen Wolf on AO3. It may just work with author!

Good luck.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Heyy, this works! Thank you so much for making my life easier.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, just put the minus sign in front of the author's name, same way you'd eliminate a word doing a google search. You can do it with multiple names if you want.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Just tested and it works like a charm, thanks.

I want it, too! And I honestly wish people would tell me this if they think it. It sure as hell would discourage me from posting, but at least I'd know that it's that my writing sucks, not that I'm freaking alone with my non-existent fandoms.
So far all the feedback was positive, though, so it is possible that my writing does not suck so very badly after all and that's why people don't tell me this. IDK.

And I also just don't have the heart to leave negative reviews on a fic with a million of hits and no kudos. It's so pitiful and so painfully obvious. Fanart posts in particular pain me.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's mean, but yeah, sometimes I feel like doing that for people's shitty original character fics. I mean, on rare occasions, I find ones that are pretty good, and that's usually reflected by the kudos/comments (as well as being gen), but like you said, what's the point? Hopefully, barely any hits, comments or kudos will send the right message across.

Anon trolling on fic/art/etc makes you an asshole. Somebody who wrote a fic you didn't like makes them somebody who wrote a fic you didn't like

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
That's not what "trolling" means.
To troll is to intentionally stir shit for your own amusement.

It may still make a person an asshole, but people need to stop throwing the word "trolling" at absolutely everything they don't like.
