Doesn't she go out of her way in this book to point out that everyone is a terrible person?
OH YEAH SHE DOES :D

I read the whole thing, by the way, so I know that maybe... two people weren't terrible (and I enjoyed it a lot too; it's really my kind of book)

I didn't think it was a bad book, looked at objectively! But I prefer escapist fiction, I think - It was really not my kind of book.

(I sat there thinking, "You know if I want to sit through miserable hours of people fighting about zoning and social justice I could go to the local inclusionary housing nonprofit's meetings - OH WAIT I DO." And you know, that group is a cesspool of institutional dysfunction and small-group politics and petty personality issues but it still isn't as miserable as the people in that book.

Basically I am politically the exact opposite of OP but I also felt like it was telling me I am terrible and my life is pointless...)
