1. Pardon my strong opinions on this subject, but if you can't be bothered to watch the canon of a character you claim to be a fan of, then yes, you really are reflecting a huge lack of respect towards them, as you're implying that everything worth knowing about them can be garnered from scripts and second-hand opinions. I don't think it's unreasonable for people to ask that other fans actually watch the show or play the game they claim to be a fan of before they jump into fandom, and I think it's ridiculous when people cry elitism and hierarchy at that simple, common-sense-based request.
