I always had the impression that Phoenix/Edgeworth was way bigger, but then I never was in the fandom. Just been playing the games the last couple of weeks and sighing blissfully over Phoenix and Maya and how whatever their relationship is, it isn't about UST.

Phoenix/Maya and Phoenix/Edgeworth are about equal, and there's a third Nick pairing that is a spoiler for the third game so I won't spoil, but it's not quite as big.

But yeah I love their brother/sister relationship or whatever it is. I think making it romantic would ruin the game.

Ahahaha, I played the games years ago and just picked them up again recently. I still remember who the real culprits are, but rarely their motives or most details at all. It works well enough to keep the challenge in *g*

One of the reasons I love these games is all the central female characters who are so completely natural in their parts and not one of them ever comes across as being there just because they needed to put a woman somewhere. Maya's just the ultimate example. It would have been so, so easy for them to make her a love interest, and I'm so eternally grateful to see a central female character be acknowledged as fully worthy of her place in the story even if she's "just" a little sister substitute.

I don't think it'd necessary make the games worse if she and Phoenix were romantically involved, but it would most certainly be dimming my enjoyment of them. It long since got to the point where I'm unreasonably gleeful just to find any story in which the main girl doesn't get together with some guy, and the AA games are just full of main girls not getting together with anyone.
