That's what bothers me the most... I don't care that people like douchebag characters, you can like whatever you wanna like, but then they bend over backwards to defend their douchiness, and it's just... oi...

Yeah, I get that. There's some denial going on there, like, "I'm attracted to this character, and I can't possibly be attracted to a character who's a jerk, so this character must really not be a jerk!"

No. Man, just face the reality of the situation (being attracted to a jerk doesn't make you a jerk, by the way!), and own the douchiness of your object of affection. Stop making excuses for your own insecurities.
