YANA I pretty much gave up altogether with 11, though I missed large chunks of 10 because I was doing shiftwork when it aired. Although I did see The End of Ten (LOL) on a marathon weekend and I was....less than impressed. (The 2nd Ten!Master was way too OTT IMO.) The series with Donna was the best, and closest to what DW used to be, IMO, but from what little I see on the Internet, it seems to be universally reviled because it doesn't have the bad soap opera romance angle.

I watched most of 11 (I think--may have missed a few here and there) but I gave up entirely five minutes into the Christmas Special when 11 pulled that woebegone face, I was like NO NONONONONONO. Done with it.

Wake me up when the Valeyard arrives on the scene.

Season 4 tends to be more reviled because it doesn't have very many brilliant episodes and had a crushingly stupid/infuriating finale, not because of the non-romance. Everyone was relieved at the break from romance, in fact. It's my favorite too, because of Donna.

All of the Nu!Who finales are like this for me, LOL.

Even season 1? I thought season 1 was pretty good apart from the game show gimmick.

DONNA WAS AWESOME. If I could pick only one season to rewatch, it would definitely be that one. I'm really heartbroken that she's pretty much the only companion who doesn't get her wish fulfilled in some way and never will be able to. I loved that they were just BFFs traversing through space and time - I was over the whole "companion is in love with the Doctor" angle after Martha, and then they just went back to it with Amy and then made it ten times worse because she marries Rory anyway even though she's unrepentantly in love with the Doctor. Uhg. I'm just really unhappy with 11's arc overall :/

Um...Amy's not in love with the Doctor. Moffat kept doing those stupid fake-outs, but she wasn't ever actually implied to be in love with him after "Amy's Choice". IA with the rest of the comment though.
