Weird fandom traditions?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-25 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've noticed the Pokémon fandom likes to make fakes when the new generations roll around to trick fans. And I was wondering if any your guys fandoms have weird things that are sort of exclusive to that fandom.

The only thing I can think of is the Red Pants Mondays trend in the Sherlock fandom. Basically, it's draw John Watson in red pants (sometimes nothing else).

Doctor Who fandom has a similar thing - for Series 6 and 7 we had these fake spoiler posts going around that were actually just descriptions of things that happened in Seasons 6 and 7 (i.e. the episodes that aired in 1969 and 1970). It's amusing to read the reactions and try to figure out who genuinely fell for it vs. who's just playing along with the joke.

Well that's just mean! ;) and also kind of cool.

new fan here so I probably would have been one of the ones falling for it, but then of course I would have gone and looked up the actual episodes and learned everything I can about those too (like I'm doing now).

I could see 'the Doctor is exiled to Earth and goes to work with UNIT' working in the new series....

I know it's Homestuck thing, but what exactly is March Eridan?

Re: Weird fandom traditions?

Copied from the Homestuck article on knowyourmeme.com:

"During the production of a calendar by the official Homestuck art team, artist Peter Turner a.k.a. AbortedSlunk added a crossdressing version of the character Eridan to the design of the picture for March. This particular design became very popular, with many other fanarts and tributes made to the version."

Long story short, it comes from the art for March in the Homestuck calendar a few years back:
