"Victory of the Daleks" was indeed very bad, and I wasn't too fond of the ending of "The Idiot's Lantern", but the rest of the latter episode I actually found pretty good. I haven't seen "Night Terrors", but "The Unquiet Dead" was okay.

Anyway, people were over the moon about Moffat becoming showrunner when it was first announced, because his episodes so far had been absolutely brilliant. RTD's own episodes were really uneven, but I was much happier about the show in general when he was showrunner. I don't think there's a direct correlation between the quality of someone's episodes and how well they perform as showrunner. I'm ... tentatively hopeful, even though it could of course be as bad as you fear.
