Potential trigger warning for shootings?

o So, I heard the Ke$ha song “Die Young” on the same day as a certain horrific shooting, and now I cannot separate the two events, but I would really like to, as the song has been played a lot where I live, and it causes me issues with functioning. Does anyone know of any good ways to disassociate two things, or is it not ever going to happen?

Watch a music video! I'm not sure if that song has a video, but if it doesn't then maybe search up some fanvids with that song? It might be worth a shot

Maybe try to form a new association? Find a fanvid using the song or something like that?

Third the fanvid suggestion. I don't know if it'll actually work, but the more positive experiences you have of the song, the more you might be able to remember those instead of the negative.

The fanvid is a good idea. Also maybe try to find other positive associations to have with the song. Listen to it while doing something you really like or spending time with people you like or something?

Disassociation can be tricky but I've done it and it's awesome. I had a few songs that reminded me of an asshat ex I have but the more I listened to them the better it got. I tend to tell myself "I'm not going to let [name of asshat] ruin this music for me!" I wan't going to give him that power. Now I rarely think of him at all when I listen to them - they just pass through my playlist like all my other songs.

I've done this with stuff I like that isn't music, too.

Well, according to portions of tumblr, the only logical solution is to give up on disassociating it, demand that everyone label their content with such a warning, and get outraged whenever someone refuses to acquiesce to your request.
