New England, USA area. My apartment is a recently converted unit (they take the big old houses around here and fix 'em up so like four families can each have an apartment), so the one bathroom has a sink, toilet, and bath/shower combo. My partner's mom's and dad's houses (same area) both have a downstairs half-bath (sink + toilet) and an upstairs full bath. My parents' house in California, though, had two full baths, but the master bath had two sinks in like an alcove, where one side had a door to the walk-in closet and the other side had a door to the toilet and shower. The other bathroom originally had the first bathroom door lead just to the sink, and then a second door inside led to the toilet and bath/shower. The house had three bedrooms and a master bedroom, so I assume it was built for a family bigger than four, so others could use the sink area while somebody was taking a shower or using the toilet.
