Funnily enough, I had more of an issue with the fact that, um, seriously? he starts a random rumor on Christmas Day and by the next day, everyone is raring for her to be kicked out? SERIOUSLY? That's all it took for the supposed architect of the Golden Age to get a no-confidence? Not to mention it didn't exactly come up in an actually meaningful way again. If the season 2 finale had involved the idea tha Harriet Jones had stopped Torchwood from being fucking morons, and the Doctor thoroughly kicking himself for what he did, it would've made up for the wtf-factor, but alas no, it was pointless.

And then the season 3 finale kind of rendered the whole thing moot, since the Master would've surely gotten her assassinated and ruined the golden age anyway, so it was doubly pointless.

That too. I've actually had the Master thing pointed out to me in a "see, it's good that the Doctor overthrew her" sense. :\

But then I also didn't like the line in Doomsday where Pete mentions Harriet Jones being in charge and the Doctor tells them to watch out for her. But then in Journey's End they're all okay again? Argh, that whole messed up character arc... one of my least favorite things about the RTD era.

I like to believe that Ten Too and Harriet are BFFs in Pete's World with Rose and alt!Donna and they all have fun shenanigans together.

I might be wrong, but I get the sneaking suspicion that that scene might have been an idea the writers were planning to explore more deeply but later threw out. Because it's not totally OOC for what we later learn about Ten (in that it's the type of thing he'd do in different and more nasty circumstances, even if it was just out-of-nowhere and stupid in that particular situation) but that specific thread kind of went nowhere and never became a really central issue so it's just kind of obnoxiously sitting there and never satisfactorily resolved. Like the whole Adam Mitchell thing in Nine's arc.

I like your Pete's World headcanon, btw ;) Although I wonder how TenToo would square with interacting with a alternate whole version of part of himself...*brain hurts*

The difference between Harriet and Adam is that Adam was clearly introduced as the "bad" companion to Rose's "good" one, highlighting that power and knowledge of the future can corrupt and that there are plenty of people who'd see time travel as a way to gain something for themselves vs just going out there for the exploration of it all. Yes, he was definitely more sympathetic in his first episode, but even in the second episode he wasn't evil per se... just misguided. And a lot can be said about the fact that the Doctor had just met the guy and didn't know much else about him other than those brief interactions with him and Rose.

Whereas Harriet Jones was an established someone. She was supposed to bring about Britain's Golden Age, someone the Doctor admired via history, supposedly like Churchill - another man who occasionally got his hands dirty - or Shakespeare or Dickens. That she's in "our" future vs "our" past shouldn't and shouldn't have made a difference. So for RTD to introduce her from that angle and then steer COMPLETELY in the order direction... yeah. Basically what you said, but overall Adam isn't even a blip on the radar compared to Harriet Jones.

As for Ten Too and who I assuming you're referring to as Donna, the answer is "wibbly-wobbly best of friends."

Oh yeah, I was more pointing out Adam as another example of "things that just kinda sit there and don't get resolved even though they really should". Like, I have a seriously hard time believing Adam would really just listen to the Doctor and go live a nice quiet life and manage it without being found out, y'know? But...yeah, RTD does these weird douchey things that should have all these kind of important consequences but don't quite a few times, tbh. *shrugs*
