Nothing to add, I just adore that pumpkin. It's been ages since I've tried carving a pumpkin, I miss it.

I agree! It's the most adorable pumpkin ever.

I shall also add the daily reminder that Wooper is the best Water-type ever.

I do the same thing but in reverse. I do the left side first and then the right side. I feel your pain.

I was literally about to come down here and berate your for your terrible formatting, OP, until I actually read the secret. XD

Props.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-27 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone who legitimately finds a secret like the one pictured "damn confusing" and/or "difficult to read"... is a fricking IDIOT.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-27 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
This is an English-language forum, so people have a reasonable expectation of secrets following English writing conventions (left to right, top to bottom). Secrets that have the words nonsensibly split up are not impossible to read, but they do require more effort than is natural.

Most prefer not to have to mentally Rubix Cube a sentence just because the OP was being lazy about their layout. Most will scroll by the secret or only stop long enough to tell the OP they're doing it wrong. That maybe makes them impatient, but not "a fricking idiot."

(Anonymous) 2013-02-27 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Except reading is a process that most people are taught, and people who have English as their first language are taught to read in columns when the formatting is like that. Newspapers, magazines, etc.

Anyone who formats a secret like that and expects people not to have problems is a fricking idiot, frankly.

Funny, my first thought when I read this secret was, "What do you have against Technophile woopers?" at the same time I was growing increasingly frustrated by the word placement. *sigh* I need sleep.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-27 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I have never made a secret like this, but I also don't have trouble reading secrets like this. I don't see the problem.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-27 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really get the frustration? I mean, it's not the best formatting, but there are worse. If the secret doesn't make sense reading in columns, then my next instinct is to read it across the picture. I just don't get that that apparently doesn't occur to some people...
nyxelestia: Rose Icon (Default)

Since when has "it could be worse" ever stopped pwople from complaining about something?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-02-27 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that it doesn't occur to people to do that, it does - most people CAN read it, and most of the time it's not even that confusing. It just really, really, really goes against English orthography convention, which can seriously throw people off. And for people whose reading method is more visual than mental-auditory, it can also be awkward because you have to 'piece together' the lines and sentences rather than having them flow out naturally. (If your reading method is more focused on 'hearing' the words rather than seeing them, I suspect the problem is not as severe because spacing issues don't effect the word flow as much).

And for a lot of people it just seems like design blasphemy to do it this way - yeah, sure, it's technically readable, but not ~easy to read~, which in a place like F!S is important.
