Yeah? Women using men's terms to describe their sexuality irritates me. No, women don't jack off, they jill off. I'm sick of seeing female characters in movies, books, fics, saying "Blow me!" when mad (uh, what? No. You don't have a dick; this makes zero sense.).

So, I'm glad to see a term for female masturbation used (a (probably) female OP using a female term, oh noes! How awful! Not. I will however totally lol and love it just as much if it's a male using a female term for once. Awesome cakes!)

I didn't actually realize "jack off" was supposed to be for males only until I read this secret. I've also never heard of "jill off" and for a few seconds I squinted at it and thought it was a typo.

It bothers me just because "jack" is used for many things that aren't a name, but "jill" is a name and I know someone named Jill and...it just seems weird?

But I see where you're coming from with the gender thing.

Yeah, no, the phrase comes from the jerking/jacking motions of the hand. It's any short repetitive motion, which... definitely happens when people with vaginas masturbate!

I really dislike when people feel that masturbatory terms are inherently gendered... especially when they're based on someone's sex which doesn't necessarily match up with gender.

I'm a woman. I jack off. I don't feel the need to feminize a term so that it's palatable for me to use. That kind of thing is confusing at best and a slippery slope to having sex-segregated words become more common usage again - waitress, actress, because silly women, you can't use words that are traditionally assigned to men!

I'd actually disagree with you when it comes to words like waitress and actress. The origins of those words might be shady, but with the way they're perceived today, if I used "waiter" or "actor" to describe myself it would feel as though I think I need to conform to the masculine "default" if I want to be considered as worthy as a man at the same job. Using "waitress" and "actress" is important to me because I can be just as good without having to ID as masculine even in an indirect way.

The reason I see "jack off" differently is because I don't think "jack off" is a masculine term. It hadn't even occurred to me before this. I thought it had to do more with the motions involved - like a jackhammer? (Another anon above articulated this better). "Jack" isn't just a man's name; it's also an English word that has other meanings. "Jill" otoh is just a name and it feels weird to associate masturbation with a name.

tl;dr I agree with you about "jack off" but not for the same reasons

I think women could use "blow me." Eat me would probably be more accurate, but "blow me" corresponds with oral sex and women receive oral sex. I think it can work.

This. Come to think of it, if we're being all anatomically correct, a guy saying "Blow me" makes zero sense as well since... there usually isn't much blowing going on.....

I've always appreciated "jill off" and thought everyone should use it! Mostly because someone long ago pointed out to me that your hand actually looks like it spells "jill", and I was tickled enough by it that I can't unthink it.

I hadn't thought about jacking up a car, but yeah, that makes sense. I did think it was a gender-neutral term and never associated it with the name "Jack" (also using a person's name to describe masturbation is hella weird to me)
