british recs

anything awesome that you guys would rec? i love brit comedy but i'm open to other genres as well. i've seen a lot of stuff already: sherlock, downton abbey, pretty much every panel show (but feel free to rec anyway in case i missed something), green wing, merlin, black books, gavin and stacey, peep show, the it crowd, mighty boosh, spaced, monty python of course, uhh...that's all i can think of at the moment but i'm sure i'm missing something.

i can't decide whether i want to jump on the doctor who wagon yet, so that's a no go right now.

Apparently Jekyll and Black Mirror are good, but I haven't seen them.

Damn, most everything I would've recommended you've already seen. (Was totally going to recommend Spaced.) Uh...there IS Luther, but you might've seen that too. I can't recommend it enough though; Idris Elba is fantastic. (So is Ruth Wilson!)

I also quite like Whitechapel, and my mom likes Ripper Street (though I have yet to see that).

Also, Strike Back for Richard Armitage being a badass. Only season one, though. (If you like Richard, he was briefly in Vicar of Dibley too and was perfection. He was all kinds of adorable with Dawn French. Haven't seen the rest of the series but I kinda want to.)

Edited to add +1's for Being Human and Life on Mars. Don't know how I forgot about those. Being Human is (even in it's worst seasons) really entertaining and has a whole cast of likable and interesting characters, and Life on Mars was just excellent all around, imo.

In terms of Richard Armitage being badass, Spooks > everything. It's a constant rollercoaster ride from drooling to heartbroken. And it's not just his character; the whole ensemble is fantastic (even when the writing sometimes isn't).

*wants to resurrect the fandom soo badly*

And + 1 on Luther and Life on Mars.

These may of may not be relevant to your interests as I can't see a common factor in what you've mentioned (aside from British).

Comedy: Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Father Ted, Miranda, Mrs Brown's Boys, Not Going Out, Phone Shop, Cuckoo.

Drama: Being Human, Call the Midwife, Luther, Skins (maybe, I only saw the first iteration), Utopia, Black Mirror. If you go back a few years I liked No Angels and Teachers. (I also love Casualty, Holby City and Waterloo Road, but no one else adits to even watching them nevermind enjoying them).

IDK, that's just a random list of things I remember seeing and liking but it covers a pretty wide selection of tones.

If you're up for radio comedy, Cabin Pressure is really funny, plus it has Benedict Cumberbatch in it, for a Sherlock fan.

I think you've about covered nearly all the comedy bases! A few more I can think of...

Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe
That Mitchell and Webb look
BlackAdder
Fawlty Towers
Jeeves and Wooster-- Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are SO good in this!
Absolute Power
Vicar of Dibley
Father Ted
Miranda

Drama/Mystery:

Sherlock Holmes, the Granada series with Jeremy Brett-- a must see for any Holmes fan
Life on Mars
Spooks
Midsomer Murders
Inspector Lynley Mysteries
Morse
Lewis

Miranda and My Mad Fat Diary. First is hilarious and the second is very real, but funny and speaks so much truth about teenage hood.

Anything by Chris Morris or Armando Ianucci. It's pretty dark heavy satire.
