If Mom was into it, she probably didn't even notice her kid was gone for half an hour. Maybe peripherally recognized that it was a long bathroom break, but probably nothing more.

This would have been my reaction. Time flows differently when you're watching a movie (unless it's a really boring movie, but I personally loved Avatar, so many pretty pictures!! lol)
