Aww. I didn't even watch the show but for catching the occasional few minutes during channel-flips, but I remember him as being really adorkably awesome.

He was! I loved how supportive they were of each other, one of the greatest married couples on TV...

And he didn't even die because the actor was leaving or they wanted to explore storylines without the character; it was purely for IMPACT in the finale, which in itself was a jerky mess of 'Joe dies! But a few years down the line, she finds out that he's alive! But at the end it was all a dream and he's dead anyway! But at the end of her life they're re-united! So nothing else matters!'

What'd he die from?

He died in a plane crash and she had a vision of it.

In a plane crash. The finale was evil because it made you believe that there was this remote possibility that he was alive and Alison was trying to find him, and then none of it was real and it sucked balls.

Inquiring minds want to know! I watched the show semi-faithfully just because of him. (I am pretty sure I am still part of a facebook group called something like "Joe DeBois sets an unreasonably high standard for all men ever" or something like that. XD

That's easy! A season or two before the end, Ariel had a vision of her adulthood, in which Joe was still alive. Ergo, the finale was not canon. *sticks fingers firmly in ears*

Nooooo. Nope I'm ignoring this as canon(okay so I only caught bits and pieces of Medium but I always really loved their relationship and how adorkable he was).

LOL, that was almost incidental. The finale was one of the most insane hours of TV I've ever seen, it spanned several decades and jumped about 500 sharks.

OMG, I am with you there 100% OP. It still depresses me to much to think about. I'd love to rewatch the series as I missed bits and pieces of the early seasons, but I'm just so disheartened about Joe. He just made the show for me. I mean, I loved all the characters but it was an episode that featured a lot of Joe that really drew me in because he was so awesome. :(

As far as I'm concerned that finale was a non-canon acid trip or something.

I watched like the first half of the first season on CBS. Then I fell behind, intending to catch up, but it never happened, and I was SO FUCKING GLAD of that when I heard about the finale. My laziness SAVED ME for a change.

I'd go ahead and catch up on everything BUT the finale. I wish I'd missed an episode or two along the way, so I could have something new to wash the taste of the finale out of my mouth.

THIS. I swear I was just thinking about this the other day; one of the worst things, in retrospect, was that now whenever I remember *anything* about the series, I also remember that the finale happened.

Speaking as a girl who's lost her father, who'll never see him hold her children or walk her down the aisle, the fact that the writers clearly thought the scene at the end magically made everything happy and okay enraged me literally to the point of nausea.

Yeah, same here! That ending was sooo unneccesary omfg
