Pretty sure it was. I got a feeling JK was rushed just a little too much with the last book. She had a shitload of stuff to tie up, and she did a good job for most of it, but that "epilogue" and various other things just felt like, if they'd given her just a few more weeks, we would've had a more polished finale.

I heard that she wrote the epilogue pretty early on and then kept it locked away until she'd finished the series. This might explain the difference in quality between the seventh book in general and the epilogue.

I heard the same, and got the sense that including the epilogue was basically a 'treat' to herself for finishing; hard to begrudge her that after an epic like HP, so I try to minimize my eye-rolling over 'Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny have lots of babies including ALBUS SEVERUS and also Malfoy got fat and ungly, THE END'.
