Can anyone recommend me a good, non-slice-of-life light novel to read? It doesn't have to be translated, but I've already gone through most of the popular ones and don't know which of the other series are worth picking up. The pretty art doesn't help in my buy ALL the light novels urge either...

wait, is "light novel" a type of manga or something? because at first i thought you were talking about light as in an easy read but then you mentioned translated and pretty art so i'm confused. sorry if this is obvious and i'm being a dunce.

I guess the easiest way to put it would be the Japanese equivalent of YA fiction? Yeah, I think that works.

Spice and Wolf? Though, you might have read that one already given it's pretty popular.

I love The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. Each one is fairly short and made up of a series of short chapters that usually tell a self-contained story, some of which link in to the primary story arc of the book. This makes them easy to pick up for for short periods.

Is that related to this The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency? I've own the tv series and it's pretty sweet, but for serious are you telling me that there's an anime-fied light novel version too :O

or are we talking about completely different things

I like Toaru Majutsu no Index, but to be honest I'm mostly just in it for Accelerator at this point.

I like Full-metal Panic, .hack, and Haruhi Suzumiya.

Strawberry Panic! - On the one hand, they're kind of terrible, but on the other they're terrible in an incredibly entertaining way, like any other soap opera.

(Slight trigger warning, though...some of the characters (I'm looking at you, Yaya!) are somewhat iffy on the whole 'consent' thing.)
