I've distanced myself from the fandom in general for this very reason.

It helps that I've separated the pairing so I enjoy it in fandom but don't see it in canon, but still this fandom is nutso and can ruin anything given time.

Yeah. I mean, I enjoy shipping and squeeing about this ship and having "OMG DID YOU SEE THAT?" moments but holy shit. People take it so freaking seriously. And if Derek and Stiles are together in a scene, it's impossible to be happy about that (interaction!) because everyone's like OMG CANON. And I mean, I realize the actors played it up and I realize that it would be awesome, but holy shit, nothing we have seen makes me think this ship is going to be canon. And if Derek or Stiles gets a love interest in season three, fandom is going to have a meltdown and it's going to be miserable (granted, I don't want either of them to get a love interest but that's mostly because I get enough of that from Allison and Scott, hahaha).

And man, I love the kinks in this fandom, I love that people are writing whatever they want to write without shame, I just wish they would remember that Stiles is a pragmatic little shit, Derek is a huge asshole who doesn't think things through, and Scott is the nicest person on the show. Write whatever you want but please keep these characters somewhat in character.

And the bad thing is, I drank the coolaid. I have fucking pack mom!Stiles fic on my AO3 account. I want to delete it but I want to keep the kudos and commments, sob.

...anyway, whew. Sorry for the rant. ;;;;

You only tasted the koolaid! Just a sip, to try it out. See how it tasted. No shame in that! Now you can slowly back away and roll around in the land of canon characterization.

I've been devouring the fic and lately all I've been searching for is actual in character fic, and not fanon in-character, but I dont' know how to ask for it because it seems kind of insulting to be all "no, while these are awesome fics they are in no way in character to the show I just watched." So yeah I feel you, I love the fandom and their blatant love of kinks and tropes but sometimes I just can't take it.

Yeah, this fandom has some excellent fic, it's just. Weirdly OOC. The fanon characters differ wildly from the canon ones and I don't understand how that happened to this degree, hahaha.

Is it wrong that I hope Derek and/or Stiles gets a love interest in season three (that's not each other) because the meltdown that will happen will be fucking epic? ~~Because I sort of do.~~

I'm only familiar with Teen Wolf from what I've seen on my dash (it's most Derek/Stiles) and I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it. Even though JR Bourne is in it. There was so much Teen Wolf being reblogged by folks that I follow that I was starting to hate the actors faces, not gonna lie.

Well I'm sure the meltdown would be amusing as hell when you're on the outside looking in, hahaha. So hope away!

It's a total cheesefest and people like to make it a lot deeper than what it is (and, I mean, it'll still hit you right in the feels at times but seriously, it's a cheesefest). I hope you Savior'd it so you're not still getting bombarded. ;;;

Oh yeah. Even if I DO end up watching the show I highly doubt I'd ever get involved. And if I did it would probably just be to ship something completely contrary because I think it'd be fun.

I can't get tumblr savior to WORK... so I've just sort of learned to ignore it when it crosses my dash. Although I do occasionally roll my eyes so hard I hurt something at some of the comments I catch on the Teen Wolf stuff as I scroll past.

YES

I should have seen it coming when I was reading all this pretty much super AU/OOC fic to get myself stoked for season 2, but it was so easy to just laugh and read what was pretty awesome stories anyway.

But then it kept happening. And the meta was just all wrong, and I'm like boggling at these posts wondering if these bloggers anda authors are even watching the same show as I am, and AUGH. There was a point where I had to pick between being that fan that scolds people for having fun in their own way, and just checking out of the fandom hotel to enjoy things on my lonesome. I don't want to be that fan :(

YES. I try so hard to be the nice fan who doesn't tell other people how to enjoy fandom but! It's difficult when fandom is consistently getting everything wrong, hahaha. ;;;;;;
