Ten and Donna! There have been plenty of platonic Doctor/female companion duos on Who, but Ten and Donna made me take notice since they followed on the heels of Rose and Martha both having feelings for the Doctor. Donna was all "You're not mating with me, spaceman!" I just love them.

Second on Ten and Donna. They're relationship is still my favorite. I love how they just got each other.

Oh, I love Ten and Donna. They should've claimed to be siblings more often like they did in Fires of Pompeii, it would've been completely believable.

You completed a number of fine points there. I did a search on the theme and found a good number of people will agree with your blog.

I came here to mention them. Why only one season, RTD? Why?

And IA. I'd give SO much for Ten and Donna to have had another season, even a shortened one. Having Donna get forced out just when she hit her peak was beyond cruel, and I think Ten's arc would've ended a lot more happily if she had stayed in the picture.

It's definitely one of my favourite icons XD

And yeah :( I think RTD was going for some big tragedy, but it honestly just made you feel like... "They're ending it like THAT? D8" I think that's honestly the point where I stopped liking RTD's work quite so much...

The problem with RTD's whole big tragedy idea is that for a tragedy to actually feel tragic instead of frustrating or predictable, you have to first give some tangible hope to then get crushed by means that follow logically.

So if they'd had another season (or hell, even compressed more character development into the one season they had), and Donna hadn't gotten screwed out of everything meaningful to her like that, and the Doctor had successfully gotten over some of his demons, and then they went for the big tragedy and IDK, had Donna die epically or something and had all the Doctor's character development unravel due to that trauma and set him up to crash and burn on Mars, that would have been tragic.

But yeah, how it all actually ended was like "what, are you kidding me??" and made me feel like RTD cared more about his agenda and ideas than his characters. Which was doubly disappointing because one of the things I always loved about RTD was that even when his writing was tone-deaf or shitty, he always, always seemed to love his characters.
