Re: Rec me sci-fi books, pleaaaaaase?
- Asimov (as I said above) and Philip K Dick
- Ursula Le Guin - I read 'City of Illusions' most recently, but she has a big range so have look at the summaries to see if something interests you.
- Ender's Game - It is part of a series, but the first one can be read as stand alone.
- The Hitch Hiker's Guide and Red Dwarf series - I know, I know, they're both series. And also humour primarily. But they're also super great and easy reads as well, so you should definitely check out the first books in each and give them a go if you haven't already.
- Slaughter-house Five? Does that count? It has time travel... (God, my dad would be ashamed at how little sci fi I do read). But you could also go for some classic literature that is also sci fi, like 1984, Brave New World, A Handmaid's Tale, Flowers for Algernon, Fahrenheit 451
- Also seconding recs for Gibbons and Stephenson. I've heard good and bad things about Heinlein. Crichton seems like a lot of fun, if that's more what you're looking for
- I personally read Tanith Lee's 'Silver Metal Lover' for the lols and the lols only, so while I can't comment on the rest of her work I can say that it is as fine a YA book about the love story between a spoilt teenage girl and a robot prostitute as you'll ever come across
