So I am 26 and just had all my teeth pulled and dentures put in this past Tuesday. Now that I am semi-coherent again F!S. Gimme you painful teeth stories so I stop dwelling on mine.

Gah! Do NOT tell me that, I'm having surgery in two weeks ;-;

@OP: Out of curiosity, why? What kind of dental problem did you have (if you're okay with telling us)?

That is my massive tl;dr history.

In short terms I have horrible genetics, had 3 sets of baby teeth, never had real adult teeth. Basically no enamel. So at this point it wasn't even worth trying to save them.

So I got put under and 6 hours later I had now teeth and dentures shoved in.

But I am someone enjoying using the "denture" diet as a kick off for eating healthier and losing weight.

Wait, when you say 'dentures put in', what does this entail?

Is this the operation where they put in fake teeth by drilling them into the gums, or does the jaw have to be prepared for dentures?

In my case is was just extracting all the teeth (8 were surgicl extrctions, the rest were pulled)

Then they take a set of temporary dentures that were made out of a mold of your teeth they took a week or two earlier.

Those they put in on top on your now bare gums which they refer to as working a bit as a band-aid.

You don't remove them at all for 2 days, then after that you can remove them and rinse them and put them back in yourself.

The implant kind cost way too much for me to of even thought about doing it. My aunt had a gum disease when she got her's done in her 30s and they had to rebuild her jawbone after pulling her teeth.

*Cringes* I had that happen when I had my wisdom teeth out 6 years ago. I didn't feel anything but I could hear the crunch of the teeth snapping.

I had dental calculus removed today and I still feel like my dentist's machine is on my teeth. When I was 14 or so.

I had a tooth removed (basically, my teeth were growing in my gums before the milk teeth had fallen, so the milk teeth had to go) and the dentist broke it in half while it was inside my gums, then dropped it said half in my mouth.

Hope you'll feel better soon!

I had four teeth pulled when I was younger (part of getting braces). As I was coming out of the drug haze, one of the nurses slapped me. Not a little "[pat, pat] You awake, honey?"; a full on, face-cracking slap. I told my mom, but she said I must have dreamed it.

When I woke up the ceiling was covered in grass and a fish/dragon swimming in it.

I know I made that up.

Yours sounds like a horrible nurse.

It's things like that, that scar people and keep them from going back to the dentist.

I had a second set of incisors descend over my (ALREADY ADULT) incisors when I was young and had to have them pulled.

I had an impacted tooth that needed to be pulled about a year ago. And it was impacted with a freaking wisdom tooth, nooooo. I quietly freaked out during the pulling and after the dentist left and it was just the assistant and me, I sat up and started to cry, hahahaha. ._.; I freaked her out a bit, I think.

....also, I made a joke about The Dentist and she was laughed and was like, "oh is that a movie?" and then I felt oldoldold at 26. :\

When my sister had her wisdom teeth out she got dry socket so they packed it with zinc eugenol. Somehow she swallowed part of it and wound up really, seriously ill with clove poisoning for several days.

I wrote on Tuesday about going to the dentist for the first time in over 15 years to get my teeth cleaned. Most of it wasn't so bad but a couple had a lot of calculus on them and it felt like the hygienist was trying to yank my teeth out. Today is the first day that my gums don't hurt.

Holey MOLEY.

Best of luck in recovering from that!!

I had my last baby tooth pulled out at the dentist when I was a freshman in high school because I hated losing them and tried to avoid jostling or twisting them...then I got super tired of it. Not really painful? But kind of embarrassing haha.

I only had two wisdom teeth that grew out fine. Unfortunately my mouth isn't big enoguh for my toothbrush to reach them so they were riddles with holes. I had them pulled last year while under...?general? anasthetic? I was awake and coherant and it was my first time ever having any type of surgery and my first time of anasthetic so I had no idea how it would work AND needles are so my squick so it was not a pleasant experience at all.

He cut the teeth in half then yanked and twisted them out and my mouth filled with blood then he gave me a gauze to bite down on for the nest 12 hours.

oh and the time i chipped my front tooth half off. we went to the dentist and caps cost so much so i asked him to just smooth it out so he went at it with a grinder and i declined anasthetic because my parents had to pay for it and we were poor and holy shit i wish i had gone with the anasthetic as he took a grinder out and ground my tooth down.

also needed or still need braces as they're all crooked and weird shapes but it's so expensive and time consuming and i'm only getting old so i'm rolling with it.

I had to have six of my baby teeth pulled out because they weren't coming out on their own. (The adult teeth were also so slow to come in that the rest of my teeth had started to close the gaps, so when they finally grew in they were sideways for lack of room. Whoops.) I was not told this before my mom brought me in... actually, I wasn't told it during either, they just shot me up with anesthetic and away they went. Now there's a fun surprise to spring on someone!

The dentist also wouldn't show me the needle even though I knew there was one and said I wanted it in plain sight, so it further irritated me to be treated like a little kid. Hiding shit like that just makes me more paranoid, ffs.

Then there was the time I fell off my bike and chipped two of my teeth, but I had a much better dentist by then and the actual dental part of that wasn't bad at all. But holy hell was it expensive, and my teeth are kind of crooked and funny now.
