People do judge on looks. He's good looking and therefore will get the benefit of the doubt much quicker than an ugly looking man. Women benefit from societies notions of beauty=purity=Disney Princess as well.

There is a hot actor who once played an abuser in an episode of a TV show. I've read comments from fans about how they could understand why a woman would stay with such a man, he was just so hot and charming. And they are horrified by the fact they do understand. It's a real phenomenon.

Yes, that worries me. Although I wonder how much he can remain either of those things. Even if he manages to convince the judge of his story (which seems ridiculous but anyhow) I just wonder how uncomfortable people will feel about someone who can actually just gun someone down without any reasonable evidence that they are a person intending to do them harm. Without even checking things out a tiny little bit, like, I don't know, checking the bed you've just walked past to see if the GF is in there and OK. His defense in itself sounds like the actions of someone truly unhinged.
