This is why I'm wholly against the death penalty (or at least one reason, and possibly the biggest). It's irreversible, and when the person turns out to be innocent? the justice system is anything BUT just.
I wouldn't wish a lobotomy on anyone - even a rapist or abuser or murderer. How does that make me any better than them? The thought is just vile.

aside from that, about a year ago i met a guy who murdered 2 people. he now dedicates his life to helping kids in lower-income areas and mediates gang conflicts before they escalate. the idea that committing a crime necessarily makes you an irredeemable drain on society does not sit right with me, even if the crime is horrible.
