How do you advertise your fic?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not new to writing fanfic, but I am new to actually, y'know, sharing it with other people... so I really have no idea where to go to post about my fic. I have no LJ friends, I don't have a Dreamwidth account, and the LJ communities I've seen for the fandom I'm currently writing for (Community) seem to be mostly inactive. I posted a drabble on AO3 and got some views and kudos, which I'm absolutely ecstatic about, but it'd be nice to get some constructive reviews and what have you.

So, F!S. How do you share your fic with the online world?

I'm the same boat. I just post it on AO3 these days because LJ is officially dead for all of my fandoms and I can't bring myself to post links to it on Tumblr.

I post on dead communities on LJ (because why not) and on AO3, and the response is okay for my sort of slow fandom. Constructive reviews are hard to come by even for popular writers, though, and they're very hard to come by if you're a drabble writer.

I have no great insight to offer you, I'm afraid, except: keep doing what you're doing.

I'm not sure if it's the same Community fandom I've seen about, because that one is kind of big (compared to my The Three Musketeers standards, anyway).

But I suggest:

* Post to the 'dead' communities, because while they might truly be dead, people is surely still following them, and having a post pop up in their flist or dwircle about the fandom they still love might make their days.

* Post to FFnet. As much as the site is hated, it remains true that many fans only/mostly know of this archive.

* Post to Tumblr. If your talking about the same Community I'm thinking, I can tell your with total security that the fandom is alive and well there, and much beloved.

* Tag your posts, and tag them correctly (in LJ, DW, Tumblr and AO3). Even if you have no friends or followers, there's people who filter by tags and might eventually find your posts. What 'correctly' means depends on your particular fandom, so I'd suggest you check some sample posts first.
