Re: Did poorly on a test...
Was this the first test? Often-times, I find that it takes students turning in a first paper or completing a first test to figure out what the teacher's expectations are, how they grade, and the kinds of information they're looking for in these assignments.
Carefully go over the test, paying attention to the questions you missed. Why did you miss them? If you can't figure that out and your teacher didn't leave feedback on the test by the missed questions, ask during your meeting.
Think about how you're studying. Do you take notes or do anything active when you're studying or do you just passively read over your notes from class? You might want to consider making flashcards, writing your notes over again or organizing them into different categories as you study, or studying in groups.
