... What about it do you find scary? I guess it's pretty loud and sudden, but is there something in particular about the music that you find creepy?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but I can understand where they're coming from. It's got this icy feel to it, and then that echoey bit at the end...gah, so hard to describe!

...Well, I can't say I fully understand, but I've been frightened by some pretty silly things too, OP.

I'm not even laughing at you Anon, I've been frightened by TV Tropes pages of the mildest shit.

The opening does have a rather deep, mystical atmosphere.

...I always found it a little scary, but after not having played PS for years, I went to look it up and
yes
still scary

I really miss the old console start-ups. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
holy shit you too?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, anon, I'm so sorry. *hugs*

I've been scared by all sorts of out there things out there, so I can't say I blame you.

I always loved the PlayStation startup logo and music, though. Like someone above it said, it had this mythical air to it, and since the PS was my first videogame console, it holds a great deal of nostalgia for me.

Hearing the combo of the console startup and the disc's startup (the one with Sony Computer Entertainment America/Europe, or something like that) makes me feel like I'm eight years old again. c:

I really do miss it and it's not the same playing PS1 games on other consoles without that combination of sounds. :(

Yeah, I love it.

"Playstation."

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I can relate - hearing the PS1 loader still leaves me with a sense of unease, but only because it reminds me of my first PS1 games. It's pretty stupid that I could get scared of Tomb Raider (but seriously, screw you, wolves and your plinky doom music - throwing the controller away in a panic was totally justified at the time) but it's still what I associate with that start-up sound.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
you too?? with me it was Tomb Raider 2, and the intro with the guy being burned alive D:

(also, fuck tank controls; I've never made it past the traps in the Great Wall of China)

I dunno, I just feel nostalgia when I listen to it. Even got a file of it on my computer I can play and all it does is give me goose bumps.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I always found it a strangely captivating but unsettling noise! It's creepy in a Hal 9000 way. "I'm sorry, Dave, I cannot let you stop playing this video game. Ever."

The first game I ever played on it was the first Resident Evil.

So... yeah.

I am so glad I was not alone in this! I always found it really sinister :S

I found it mysterious, and I could see how it might be creepy or scary, but I liked it.

I can see where you're coming from. My brother has a macbook and the startup noise for that sometimes really catches me off guard. And even when starting up my laptop in the morning I've been startled by the Windows noise.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-04 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, you're not alone. The Sony Computer Entertainment sound on the first screen always creeped me out as a kid. It was such a loud, deep blare in the dark.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-04 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not the only one who thought that intro music was creepy as hell? Thank goodness! No seriously, it always creeped me out so much, OP!

(Anonymous) 2013-03-04 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
All these comments make me wonder if people piss themselves when the THX logo shows up in movies. I know, not exact, but it's the first thing I thought of when I thought "why in the world would two tones be so damn scary?"

Omg OP for me it was the THX sound test at the beginning of some movies really scary and creepy and I hated it so much ;___; I kinda understand how you feel even though I kinda like the ps1 intro thingy but the THX one scared me so bad.

Stop making me feel like I'm not a wuss. You people and your jump scares at the sound of some noise >:U

(Anonymous) 2013-03-04 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
....The Unsolved Mysteries theme still cares me.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-05 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I always found it awe-inspiring and epic. I love the PS start-up noise. But I can see how you'd find it frightening. Even after you've heard it a million times, it still manages to startle you; especially at night.
