Well, actually, post-civil-war periods like that often do make very major changes very quickly, at least in terms of institutions. Sometimes it takes a lot longer for the changes to make their way through societies, but it seems to me it would have been the perfect moment for someone to say "Why don't we re-Sort every year?" or something.

Yeah that's true. I chalk it up mostly to lazy writing. I don't think the epilogue actually contradicts the rest of the series, it just...seriously fails to make a grab at an obvious opportunity to add something meaningful to it. Still, the questions mean there's all the more fodder for fic, I suppose ;)

Resorting every year would be AWESOME!! If I was there I think I would constantly be rotating between Hufflepuff and Gryffendor.

Because, I'm not brilliant, so no Ravenclaw, and I'm not cutthroat ambitious (that's how I always interpreted Slytherin)

But now that I'm typing it out, that might make it way too complicated. Maybe offer the option of another sorting? You know, team free will? And if the student wanted to stay with their house, there would be no ill will?

lol, I'm putting too much thought into this hypothetical fictional scenario.

I think forcing the re-sorting would be better; I imagine most students wouldn't want to be seen as traitors to their House and would refuse, whether they really wanted to or not

it would also force them to spend time with students they would never associate with, and like learn friendship and stuff

Even civil wars where the establishment wins? Because that is what happened, Volde rebelled and the forces of the establishment crushed him and his followers. Usually when the pre-existing power structure crushes a rebellion its business as usual pretty quickly.

HP is a pretty pro-reactionary text when you think about it. Status quo must prevail.
