(Anonymous) 2013-03-04 07:31 am (UTC)(link)As it happens, I had the same reaction to the PTSD flashback scene that you did, and had to have it explained to me why people are constantly referring to it as a shippy scene. But I do deny that fandom is disgusting. If, as it was explained to me, Toboso was using the visual conventions familiar to a yaoi audience in that scene, I'm not sure how it's awful of the people who recognized those conventions to notice the way she was layering ideas there. (Or, if you're familiar with yaoi visual conventions but not with what a PTSD flashback looks like, why you might not even see the tears and vomit, at least on first read.) And if people are seeing something a creator actually put in a scene, and I'm not seeing it, I'd be inclined to think that they were better/more sophisticated readers than I was, not that I'm more virtuous than they are for not having the background necessary to recognize the reference.
