I'm only twenty one and I got ma'am'd today. By an eight year old but it counts!

Anyway, this is why I use miss for everyone.

Oh...is that a bad thing? lol. I almost always call people ma'am or sir...I've never seen it as an age thing. I'm sure I've called 18 year olds ma'am too.

I think it depends on where you live. Most people who were born in the South of the US use it in a variety of situations that don't have anything to do with age. :)

Yup, I live in the south! I was always told it was respectful. I don't always notice if other people do it or not, but I think it's pretty common. So it doesn't mean people think you're old anon!

I'm sorry, for two reasons:

First, that sucks that you got ma'am'd.
