Really? I thought the character in Paranorman had way more life to them than WiR, save for maybe Ralph. I loved how raw and real the dialogue was, and the bit at the end with the older brother being gay? It came out of nowhere, it was great!

Norman was completely unlikeable to me, to be honest. I know we're supposed to feel sorry for him because he gets bullied, and I do, but he's also just...so. BLAND. There is NOTHING interesting about him aside from the fact that he can see ghosts, which is more of an ability and less of a personality trait. Then there's his older sister which is basically every horrid snobby older teenage sister archetype rolled into one character, and his buddy who fills the typical "fat and dopey friend of the protagonist" role. I don't remember a single thing about the jock except that he was gay, and probably only because everyone made a huge deal out of it.

So yeah. I know it's just my opinion, but that's why I can't understand why the movie gets so much praise. The decent plot and admittedly great animation weren't enough to save it from the awful characterization.
