As someone who uses ACC/CC in fanfic (and even elements of BC and *crosses self* Dirge if I feel like it)...I still toss elements of them out too when I'm tired of their problematic parts. Original game is pretty much the only 100% canon for me. (And the discussion of Aerith in here just had me nodding my head in agreement, even if I've mostly rationalized the canon for myself--would have been SO much nicer if they'd gone spunkier.)
