Oh god, this manga. It was so fucking promising, but it went downhill around volume five or six volumes in. That 10 or so chapters of brutal, graphic rape really killed my interest in it. Which is a shame because I really loved Aoshika and Inugami. Such a shame that that story went to hell.

This is Ookami no Monsou/Wolf Guy/Wolfen Crest. Hard seinen. Contains graphic murder/dismemberment and sexual assault.

Basically: a timid high school teacher is attacked by thugs while walking home one night; a mysterious young man (who happens to be a werewolf) saves her. He is of course a new transfer student to her class. He does his best to stay out of shit but people sense his ~dangerous vibes~ and confront him all the time and everybody he know usually ends up crazy or dead. The teacher gets pulled in when she starts to fall for him and he pisses off the wrong BATSHIT crazy Yakuza dude. A brutal gang kidnaps her to lure the werewolf into their trap and kill him.

The characters are interesting and the violence is apt for a werewolf story (even if the werewolf is the least violent person in it). BUT toward the end the teacher is gang-raped by her kidnappers for a long, long, detailed, horribly glorified, long time. (Even worse for the fact she was already a rape victim and had a psychotic break from the experience.) It's a shame because it was a good manga until then, it was good after, and it probably would've still be good with it had the rape scene been brief and effectively handled and not turned into a lengthy torture-porn hentai that totally derailed the story.

tl;dr Yeah, OP, I really liked it on the whole, but it had some really, really skeevy problems. I don't know if I'd read something else by the same mangaka.

Dude. Damn my curiosity, but I just looked up a few scans from chapter 70 of this thing. What. The. Fuck. No one can dare argue they're not making porn out of this rape; you do not draw the rape victims from those angles if you're not sexualizing her. Period.

Sorry, but I don't understand how anyone who likes this thing can possibly look past that. Those were some of the most disturbing manga pages I've ever seen.

Even if the manga has an anti-rape message overall (as TV Tropes attempts to argue), the way they created rape spank fodder for their male audience completely devalues it.

Yep. Imagine having to sit through one chapter after another of this when each one was coming out, with no idea when it was going to end. I don't even know how many fans must have given up for good around chapter six or seven of happy fun rape time.

Man, how many times have I seen this argument in this fandom? I don't think 18+ necessarily equals ten chapters of sexualized assault, which is just a tiny bit excessive even for a mature story. And worse, it came out of nowhere. If I go into a movie like "I Spit On Your Grave", yeah, I expect a big chunk of the flick to be focused on one thing, that's the whole story. But I don't think anybody started off with Wolf Guy expecting Volume 8. The entire plot basically took an extended break from werewolves and gangsters to turn into a subset of rape hentai, complete with a fantasy aphrodisiac so there'd be some panels where the victim could be drawn like she was enjoying it. I mean, come on.

There was one other brutal scene in the same manga that lasted maybe two pages and conveyed just as much horror without any of the fetishism. I imagine that's what people expect out of an 18+ seinen. Not a volume's worth of whaaat-the-hell.

I'm HOPING OP meant the way the fans act in reaction to it, i.e victim blaming, etc (how no one will want her after that, blah blah) rather than "I liked the rape scenes."

(Not that there's anything wrong with fetishizing rape in fiction, imho.
