TV Shows - Guilty Pleasures?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Any shows that you don't like admitting to people that you watch?

Mine are:
-America's Next Top Model (though I haven't watched the last two cycles since the show has gone way downhill); I generally don't care for the drama but I tend to love watching the photoshoots and runway shows even though I'm not that into fashion.
-Mob Wives; I freaking LOVE how all these women use stereotypical mob lingo like "I feel like these bitches set me up" or "I ain't no fucking snitch" and they're not talking about the mob life, they're just talking about how angry they are with one another over petty things like talking crap behind each other's backs.
-Sex& the City; I have a lot of problems with the show (I don't care much for Carrie and she's our main protagonist; this fucking show fucking talks so fucking much about men and it's like they can't live without men in their fucking lives) yet I always find myself watching it when there is nothing on tv. OK I'll admit, I do enjoy the general relationship between all four women, I sometimes wish my friends and I were as there for each other as these ladies.

Wife Swap and Extreme Couponing. I don't seek them out, but if I'm flipping channels I can't look away.

Chopped. I watch that show way, way more than I fucking should. I choose a rooting interest (usually either based on who I feel has the most legitimate skill, or if there's any female chefs) and I try to imagine how I would approach each basket. I like that, as a show, it's at its best and most interesting when the contestants are being competent and inventive and creative, not when they're melting down. I like the judges, either seriously (Amanda Freitag is my celebrity crush) or non-seriously (Aarrrrrrrrrrrron Sanchez). I love Ted Allen. I even love the incredibly over-dramatic music and editing - it never fails to crack me up.

Such a fun show to watch for me.

Man, Chopped's great. I /love/ how over the top excited they get over everything! Do you have a favorite season?

Hm, a favorite season... I've never really thought about it before (since a non-trivial percentage of my Chopped watching is of repeats) but I'm going to have to go with the fourth season. Solid across the board, really good group of judges with no weird celebrity judges, fairly minimal amount of gimmick episodes, and what is to me inarguably the single greatest episode in Chopped history (Lance v Madison). Gonna go with that.

I love Chopped as well, but I don't feel embarrassed in telling people how much I love it. XD It's a really fun show to watch. My brother and I are actually watching a rerun right now.

I used to watch Desperate Housewives like this. The wildly OTT soap opera tangled up plotlines were just huge amounts of ridiculous fun because they were OTT and funny and whacked-out enough to be entertaining rather than painfully dull and stupid, like the soap-opera-ness in a lot of other dramas.

Almost every teen soap opera ever made, including Teen Wolf.

Pretty much all the reality shows I watch. (Except for Ru Paul's Drag Race. Everyone should watch that.) I get pretty invested in Project Runway, especially when my eye candy gets auf'd. I like Face Off on Syfy. I just started watching Robot Wars and it's okay. The only singing show I watch now is The Voice, mostly for Adam and Blake.there are bunch of others. I blame my SO. I never watched reality TV until he got me into it.

Ghost Adventures. Its awful, but I can't seem to stop watching.

Yes to ANTM. I also really enjoy Storage Wars (original and NY only, TX can gtfo), Pawn Stars, and American Pickers.

For several years, NCIS was a guilty pleasure for me but this season I quit it. :\

Storage Wars and all of its spinoffs are my guilty pleasures. Even Texas, though honestly Moe and Mary are the only two that make it bearable for me.

Basically, if it's got Wars in the title, there's a good chance it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Pawn Stars too.

Why did you end up quitting NCIS? I've started to grow very disillusioned with it too.

When I get to a point with a series where I just don't care enough about the characters anymore, that's the time to stop watching. Ducky's my favorite character (because he's STEEL, dammit!) but he never has enough to do. I checked in to make sure he survived the end of last season, but I realized I didn't care if any of the other characters survived the attack. In fact, I think I'd respect the showrunners more if they had killed off another major character like they did with Kate.

It means I don't watch anything on Tuesday anymore, so can TPTB move The Following to Tuesday? My Mondays are overbooked!

Gotcha, it's getting to be the same for me. Can't stand most of the characters anymore, especially Gibbs and Tony.

There definitely needs to be more Ducky, imo. Palmer too. Seriously, I love their dynamic, but it's hardly ever focused on.

Guys, watch last week's episode. Ducky & Palmer get kidnapped and there's all sorts of great interaction and them being awesome.

My father absolutely LOVES Storage Wars, for reasons that are mostly mysterious to me, so (since I'm living at home atm) I've caught a decent amount of it. I honestly do not understand the appeal, at all. It's like Antiques Roadshow, except less interesting, and with uninteresting characters and standard Reality TV Drama.

Suppose you could call the anime I watch a guilty pleasure? No hentai or anything (not that there's anything wrong with that), but stuff I feel self conscious about watching when there's non-anime fans in the room.

Currently watching Baccano!, by the way!

I'm the opposite to you with ANTM I like watching for all the OTT bitching and cat-fights because it's just so ridiculous to me.

I dunno I kind of count How I Met your Mother into my guilty pleasure list, I don't think it's terribly good and I don't watch it in order but damn do I get sucked in every time I see a re-run on TV.

Maury. It started as research because I wanted to write a parody fanfic of characters from another fandom going on that show, and then the fic never got written yet... I kept watching anyway. ;_; *ashamed*

LOL I would love any fandom I like to be featured on Maury as a fanfic. XD

Also, in high school, I watched Maury so much. Eventually, I got tired of the same stuff and stopped watching. I do enjoy it when it gets a moment on The Soup, however.
