I believe that the OP is entitled to their opinion. I disagree with it but I'm entitled to that too. I do like the shows. Not every episode is a home run but I like a show that doesn't take itself too seriously. I think shows like Family Guy or American Dad paint those popular prejudices in such a ridiculous light that you would have to be just as dumb as the characters to buy into that shit. And it's not just the treatment of women. It's racism, homosexuality, ageism, politics, and a whole laundry list of shit that people take to the extreme. So they expose those extremes and turn it into comedy. I don't feel like I'm less of a woman or feminist because I enjoy that.

But again, that's just my opinion.

Yes, exactly. The humor isn't supposed to be taken seriously, which, holy shit, is a basic tenet of humor.

If only it weren't a tv show trying to make money by marketing itself to an audience who would just take all it's humor as tacit agreement.

That's the argument they used about Alf Garnet. Didn't work then either. The people laughing at the "humour" were mostly agreeing with him.
