Re: Pregnancies that ruined a character/show?
But when they ran out of ideas, they decided to turn the Bones/Booth dynamic a full 180 and had them become romantically involved. Which ruined half the show for me, because Bones' cool, logical, possibly ASD mindset got taken completely out of character by shoehorning romance in. There was a good way to have done it, but it wasn't that.
And then... Bones got pregnant, and suddenly the show wasn't Bones anymore but "As the World Turns" or something. It became all about the babies and romance. The show focused less and less on the actual plot of the episodes, and more and more on interpersonal relationships, until it was like, why are they even bothering to include a case in these anymore? They clearly don't care at all about anything that isn't love and babies. Siiiiigh.
And there went one of the only half-decent TV shows I watched.

But now it's like it's become a bad fanfic of itself where everyone shacks up and has babies.
Hell, even Cam had to adopt totally out of the blue for some treason I still don't get.

I seriously LOL'd! :D
Re: Pregnancies that ruined a character/show?
(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 08:00 am (UTC)(link)On Castle, I never saw the chemistry between the two lead characters. It would not have bothered me a whit if they'd never hooked up. BUT, considering that nearly every episode had UST-y shenanigans (you two should be a couple! fake undercover kiss! x gets a new lover and y is jealous!) designed to impress upon the viewer that You're Supposed To Want These Two Together, them actually being together has been mildly less painful, thus far.
I say mildly because now there are *new* shenanigans (I don't fit in your world! someone might find out we're a couple! I don't know him as well as he does me!), but eh.
Re: Pregnancies that ruined a character/show?
Bones to me was all about the NON-romance. Yeah, Brennan and Booth had tension/chemistry,
They did? Because to me, it was The Robot and The Idiot Have a Romance Because PLOT and FANDOM.
No, I'm not a fan of the show... I couldn't get past Automaton!Bones. For someone who's allegedly an anthropologist, she shows a shocking lack of understanding of basic human behavior. My favorite scene was where they were at a funeral and she said (in a robotic monotone, face absolutely expressionless), "These people are all grieving. I don't understand.". An (alleged) anthropologist. At. A. FUNERAL.
My husband used to like the show despite the epic stupidity, and I endured it/ignored it. But even he bailed after it became Babies Ever After.
