Once I graduated from undergrad, I've never lived closer than 350 miles to my parents, and I live even farther right now. It can be a pain, especially if you need to get home/get your mom to you quickly for some reason, but it can also have positives. I think my situation is different than yours because my mom isn't by herself and I don't worry about her. I tried really, really hard to get a job in my hometown because my mom was dealing with my grandma with Alzheimer's and I wanted to be able to ease the burden off her some, but I couldn't find one. I ended up taking a job two states over.

I think in this economy, you kinda have to do what you can to get a good job, but I completely understand feeling like you're leaving your family in the lurch.

If your mom isn't elderly and you're not worried about her being alone because she's a risk to herself or you think she might fall or something like that, I think you should go for the move. You can always move back in with your mom after your sis is settled if you feel really uncomfortable being that far away.
