That movie could have been perfect. But it had to have those stupid animated gargoyles, and the obligatory "men and women can't be friends" romance. Why they made Phoebus a good guy and didn't say put Sister Gudule in the hero's role is beyond me.

Are you familiar with the German musical adaptation of the movie? Because it might be extremely relevant to your interests.

(Basically: efforts were made to make the gargoyles less annoying, Phoebus starts out as a womanizing jerkass and has to go through some character development to locate his moral spine, the additional songs are gorgeous, and people actually die at the end)
